01 Mar Press Release – VISCOPIC wins e-Learning Award 2019
26.02.2019. On Thursday 21st February 2019, VISCOPIC and DB Netz AG are awarded with the eLearning Award in the category Augmented Reality for their joint project “3D-Durchblick”, during the eLearning Award Ceremony at the education fair Didacta in Cologne. For the ninth time an expert panel chose especially innovative and successful projects in the field of training and development. With the project „3D-Durchblick“, the two project partners convinced the jury of the potential that Augmented Reality has to enhance traditional training methods.
The primary goal of the joint project is to increase the reliability of maintenance personnel – especially in the inspection and fault clearance of control and safety systems, such as point machines. With „3D-Durchblick“, part of the infrastructure, with which the DB Netz AG employees work, got virtually recreated through Augmented Reality. Via Microsoft HoloLens, Tablets or Smartphones, the plant that is to be trained can easily be integrated into theoretical classes, possible failures can be simulated and interrelated effects can be examined. This enhances the training quality, increases security of action and merges theory and practical training.
At Deutsche Bahn, training content often revolves around complex components, such as switches, which in turn interact with other components that are often invisible from the outside. This demanding system with its dependencies and interrelationships is difficult to illustrate. AR can do more: no matter how large and complex a component is, it can be displayed comprehensibly with all components and decisive aspects. This way, correlations are presented logically and the didactic quality of teaching increases.
„With this showcase project we managed to show the significant potential of the technology to its best advantage and to therefore create an interactive and efficient training for employees of DB Netz AG. This is why we are delighted that the project was awarded with the eLearning Award 2019.”, says Thomas Knauer-Arnold, Managing Director at VISCOPIC.
VISCOPIC positions itself as experts in 3D- and Augmented Reality solutions. Therewith, the startup has guided numerous customers, amongst others renowned major corporations like the Deutsche Bahn, in the process of digitization. Together with industrial enterprises, the young company develops prototypes during individual projects, evaluates use-cases and implements software-solutions. Through the analysis of these customer projects, VISCOPIC identified recurring features, based on which the new software applications VISCOPIC Pins, Steps and Polygons have been developed.
