In the past, we had to document one’s idea for a model on a piece of paper and think of a concept in a meeting, which could then be sketched and passed on to the designer. This process has now been greatly simplified by CAD systems. The advantage of using CAD is that the idea with requirements of the component can be entered directly into the system and presented and discussed immediately in the meeting. 

What are CAD systems? 

The term CAD stands for “Computer-aided Design”. It describes the support of constructive tasks with the help of EDP to manufacture products, e.g. airplanes, buildings, cars and many more. This means that the individual steps in the design process no longer have to be carried out by hand, but are taken over by the computer. Therefore, processes from concept development to handover to production can be planned directly on the computer. This can be done in 2D, when creating city plans, as well as in 3D when planning buildings. The use of computer-based solutions makes it possible to create models in the shortest possible time and to avoid faulty designs. CAD has proven to be particularly helpful in the automotive, architecture, aerospace and mechanical engineering industries, or in other businesses such as carpentry. 

 

Possible applications of CAD systems

CAD systems prove to be particularly useful in almost all technical sectors.  For example, it helps automobile and aircraft designers to conceive, design and render models. Reusable designs can be created so that all teams use the same modeling language. Additionally, design changes can be controlled with parametric dependencies. 

Building contractors can use CAD to digitize construction sites and network projects – from design to construction to delivery.  Assembly processes can be optimized by animation from CAD. Individual components can be adjusted in the CAD so that they are later highlighted in the viewer. This makes it easier to follow and understand the work steps. Using CAD systems in the editor simplifies the process of creating models. The viewer can be used on tablets, smart glasses, smart phones or on a stationary workstation. The latter includes a fixed screen on which the PINS Viewer is installed and which displays step-by-step work instructions. It has object recognition by computer vision and is able to highlight the parts and components to be processed. This also leads to minimization of errors.
